Greetings from the AZ

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
'Allo! I am in Tucson. My flight yesterday was good, if noise. There were five to ten unaccompanied minors on the flight and they were lively. I turned up the volume on my Audible of American Gods and worked one of my current crochet projects.

Daddy was released from the hospital the day after he went in. The general consensus is that the stresses of the last couple of weeks combined with him being mildly dehydrated and super hungry after fasting for blood work and that's what led to his blood pressure tanking and his heart going wobbly again. So, to sum up, he's doing much better.

Mom and I had lots to talk about on the drive from Phoenix. My pseudo-niece, C, called just as we were getting into the city and I invited her to spend the night so we could hang together today. She said yes and got to the house in time to join us for dinner at Claim Jumper. Daddy had set it up so I could meet a couple of their church family.

We had a blast at dinner. We laughed so hard, like [info]dragonydreams and me watching Lip Sync Battle hard. We all met up again after dinner at Culvers for dessert. Mmm, custard... We had just as much fun there, to the point when we were leaving we heard one of the staff ask, "Is that the table that was having fun?"

C and I are hanging out right now. We contemplated going to the movies, but I'm not sure I can handle the noise, so that's still up in the air. We might be joining my folks and some of their church friends for lunch. We just don't know yet.

The next few days are going to be busy catching up with people, but it's going to be good. I'm not sure how often I'll be online, but I hope y'all are doing well. Thank you all for your continued love and support.

Poem: The It Factor

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So, I wrote a thing...

Title: The It Factor
Author: Danielle
Disclaimer: This is an original work of poetry. Please do not take, borrow, copy or otherwise make like it is yours. Thank you.
Notes: Don’t laugh, but something Jennifer Lopez said on the most recent episode of World of Dance inspired this.
Summary: It’s a poem.

She has it
He has it
They have it
What is it?
There’s always talk about the It Factor
But no one can define what it is
Here’s a thought
It is love
Love for a person, a place, an idea
It is passion
Passion for someone, something that brings you joy, that makes you feel alive
It is whatever give you purpose in life
It is whatever makes you shine
It is everything and nothing at all
It is you

August is just chock full of stuff going on.

I'm flying down to the AZ this weekend to visit my parents and see the extended family. I leave Saturday and I'll be back Wednesday.

I've got a doctor's appointment on the 4th.

The Alabama concert is the 5th.

Doctor's appointment on the 9th.

Pre-op appointment on the 17th.

Frozen the Musical on the 20th.

Haircut and color on the 21st.

My Birthday on the 25th.

Surgery on the 30th.

I've got two weeks to do nothing but heal until the Rockies game on September 17th.

Frozen the Musical on the 30th (I got tickets to the first and last matinees so we can see how the show changes).

Then I fly out to Boston on October 3rd to help [info]dragonydreams celebrate her birthday. Just after I get home from that we've got the Imagine Dragons concert on the 14th.

Crikey, but I don't think I've ever had this much going on so close together before.

I saw a new endocrinologist this morning to get a second opinion. I liked her and her intern a whole lot more than the doc I saw at the end of May. Unfortunately, she confirmed what the other doc said. However, she explained it better and wasn't condescending about it.

more about my thyroid back here )

So, yeah, not quite what I was hoping for, but there it is.

In other news, my dad is back home. The surgery went well and his docs and physical therapists are all really happy with his progress.

My next door neighbor is also home. His surgery also went well. He was released this afternoon. His docs and therapists are also happy with his progress.

I've had a couple of nice chats with his sister who's come up to stay with him for a couple of days.

I made a chicken enchilada casserole and a peach cobbler yesterday and took them over so neither of them would have to worry about cooking. I made one of each for us as well and they are both super nom. I used fresh, locally grown, organic Palisades Peaches for the cobbler. Soooo gooood.

That's what I've been up to lately. Hope y'all have been having a good week.

Thoughts & prayers, please

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
My daddy is going in for a knee replacement tomorrow.

There's some concern, what with his heart and all, so all good thoughts, positive vibes, and prayers would be greatly appreciated. He's been waiting for this for two years now. It's going to help him a lot.

Thank you kindly.

In somewhat related news, my next door neighbor is going in on Wednesday for a hip replacement, so if you wouldn't mind extending the same to him, that'd be great.

I have conquered Ikea! Mostly...

I have spent the day assembling the Hemnes end tables (in the White Stain) that we picked up a couple of months ago. They match our entertainment center.

We got three for the living room and I got two of them put together, before my hands said, "No more!" My right palm is very red and swollen from the way I was wielding the screwdriver. I am not looking forward to the bruise.

Thomas put together a bamboo shoe bench for next to the front door. He ordered that before I found the Hemnes"> one, so it doesn't match, but it's fairly neutral, so it goes.

We do have the matching Hemnes
coat rack, but it's going to have to wait for another day for one of us to put it together.

I'm tuckered, but I feel very accomplished.

We'sa home!

We had a lovely time this weekend. Cottonwood Pass Hot Springs is a very nice place. We still prefer the Spa Pool at Mt. Princeton, but Cottonwood Pass is much more user friendly. In fact, we've already a booked a cabin there for our anniversary. Sweet.

It took us a good chunk of the day to get home. We went a different route, the one we'll prolly take this winter, and killed an hour or two at Peterson AFB in the 'Springs. We left Buena Vista a little after 10am and didn't get home until around 6pm.

I have missed my bed.

I hope y'all have had a good weekend. If I'm missed something of import, please let me know?

Good times

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I bruised my hands clapping and lost my voice cheering.

The concert was fecking awesome.

I would have happily listened to Brian and Roger play all evening. Adam was just a bonus.

The only irritant was that our tickets said the show would start at 8pm. The usher's schedule said the same. The show didn't start until 8:40pm. Have no idea why it was delayed, but it was worth it once they got started.

I got a little teary-eyed a couple of times when Freddie joined in on the big screen. It was just...really special.

Brian gave a big shout out to a team from NASA that he worked with a couple of years ago. He'd invited them to the show and they were in the audience. He also mentioned that the first show they played in the US way back in 1974 was here in Denver at Regis University. Some of the audience were at that show, too. Shiny.

I have some crappy pictures that I took, but it's incredibly late and too much effort at the moment. If I remember I'll post them when we get home.

I will be without internet until Sunday evening. So, y'all have a good weekend and stay safe!

Mission (mostly) accomplished

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Thomas is feeling better today than he did yesterday, so that's good.

We had lunch at Torchy's Tacos (so good) and had planned to go to the movies, but the restaurant was very loud, so we passed on more noise. After lunch we went to pick up the mail, stopped by the bank, and then hit the mall so I could get my glasses adjusted and have my eyebrows done.

I think this was the least painful threading I've ever had. She had a very gentle touch and was quick, too.

Thomas would like to go play golf, but it's 96F out right now. Not good playing weather. Hopefully he'll feel up to it in the morning. I don't mind as long as he's okay for the concert tomorrow night.

I need to pack, but I don't wanna right now. That's prolly what I'll do tomorrow.

I hope y'all had a good 4th.

To my fellow Americans, I hope you've had a wonderful day full of love, laughter, and good food. To all my other friends, Happy Tuesday!

This is quite possibly my least favorite of the Hols. Okay, second least favorite. First is Valentine's Day. Anyway, D no like the booms. The fireworks are just finishing up and I've been flinching almost non-stop.

Thomas has been under the weather today, so we did not venture out. I made sloppy joe's for dinner and we watched Chef. I finished another amazeballs HP fic by flamethrower (Of a Linear Circle Part I) and am now eagerly waiting for the next installment of the series. I'm also making sure that I have what fic I might want to read and movies and TV shows we might want to watch this weekend on Lucy. I can't remember if the lodge has Wi-fi, but I do know there are no TVs.

Tomorrow I need to get my glasses adjusted and have my eyebrows done.

Hope y'all's week is a good one!

I haven't been online much lately. Been out and about a lot this week.

I had my Dermatology appointment on Monday. The doc removed a spot on my back he was concerned about and sent it out for a biopsy. I will hopefully hear something about that in the coming week. He also prescribed me Spironolactone to help with the mild hormonal acne that is starting to plague me (Thank you so much, menopause. /sarcasm).

Found out that CVS no long accepts my insurance for prescriptions. So I had to find a new pharmacy. It was the impetus I needed to switch over to the base pharmacy. Now I won't have to pay for meds anymore. Yay!

Thomas and I had lunch on Wednesday and I went out to the base to get the pharmacy sorted and to make an appointment at Firestone to get Stella's brakes checked and her oil changed.

Thursday, I took Thomas' brand new laptop into the Best Buy in Parker for them to do the setup and then I had my OMT (adjustment) appointment with Dr. P.

I turtled today and did laundry while I watched some of last season's American Ninja Warrior. That is not a good show to binge-watch. It raised my blood pressure as I tried rooting on the competitors. :)

Tomorrow we're dropping Stella off for her appointment and then booking it down to Parker to pick up Thomas' computer. There will likely be food after that, pick up the mail, and then possibly 'Despicable M3'.

It's only for a couple of days, but we're getting out of town next weekend. Thomas is taking Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off. We've got the Queen + Adam Lambert concert on Thursday and Friday we head down to Buena Vista to stay at the Cottonwood Pass Hot Springs. We'll come home on Sunday. We are very much looking forward to the break, but not the drive to get there. :)

I was messing around on YouTube yesterday and came across a beauty blogger vid where she was trying out different hairstyling tools on shorter hair. One of the products she used was Curlformers.

It reminded me that I had gotten a knock-off version a few years ago for much, much less and they were sitting in a bag in the guest room closet. I decided to break them out and give it a go on my shorter hair today.

I took pics of the results:

can we say 'volume'?><center><img src= )

I can get quicker results using my 1 1/2" barrel curling iron, but this is a pretty decent way to do heatless curls. You know, as long as you've got four or more hours to kill. It took me about an hour to do the formers and I let my hair dry in them for about three hours. I'm not too keen on just how poofy my hair is, so I don't know if I'd leave the house looking like this. But still, it was a mostly successful experiment.

So, I made a thing

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I got busy with my InstantPot today. I steamed a spaghetti squash, tried doing the 'hard boiled eggs', and cobbled together a Chicken Cacciatore Casserole.

I had to quarter the spaghetti squash to get it to fit in my Pot. It came out a bit more done than I would have liked, but it's decent. I'll know next time to cook it for a bit less time.

As for the eggs, I needed to cook them for a minute or two more. I was making egg salad and the yolks were mostly done, so it worked out, but I would have preferred a bit more doneness. But, I'm calling the venture a success and I'll know better next time!

And now for the casserole: I cubed chicken breasts and seasoned them then browned them in the Pot. Poured a jar of Cacciatore simmer sauce over them and closed it up to cook. After the chicken was done I ladled the pieces out and reduced the liquid down until it had thickened. I poured that over the chicken and set it aside. I set the Pot to 'saute' and threw in some diced Butternut squash with some seasonings and oil and cooked it for a few minutes then added that to the chicken. Then I added more oil to the Pot along with yet more seasonings and sauteed some baby bella mushrooms. I added a splash of white wine to de-glaze the Pot and let the 'shrooms go for another couple of minutes. I mixed everything together and added a container of Lifeway Farmer's Cheese (Probiotic). It's kinda like a tangy ricotta. I poured the mixture into a casserole dish and topped it with a Quatro Fromaggio blend. Now it's chillin' in the fridge until it's time to put it in the oven.

The house smells pretty good.

I also finished up laundry.

The only thing left on my to do list for the day is to change the girls' water filter and give the motor a good scrubbing.

How's y'all's week been?

I've been eying the NARS Multiple in Maui for, oh, several years now. Ulta just recently started carrying the brand and had a 4-piece gift with purchase last week, so I caved and finally ordered it.

I'm apparently allergic, or at least very sensitive, to something in it. :(

See, the reason I was so intrigued by the Multiple is because it can be used on lips, eyes, and cheeks. Easy to carry and easy to use. I tried it out about half an hour ago and within two minutes my eyes were watering something fierce. It also felt kinda...slimy? on my lips. It works fine on the cheeks, but it's not worth keeping it if I can't use it for the other bits.

Wonder Woman

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
We finally got to see Wonder Woman yesterday.

Before the movie we tried out a new (to us) restaurant, Bad Daddy's Burger Bar. Nom. So much nom. If you have one in your area I highly recommend checking it out. They have a Gluten Friendly menu, too.

I got the Frenchie (Turkey burger with Brie, Applewood smoked bacon, grilled apples, with a garlic mayo), no bun, with a side of fresh fruit (honeydew, cantaloupe, pineapple, blueberries, slices strawberries, sliced grapes, & diced green apple). It was delicious. The fruit was one of the best fruit salads I've ever had; all that was missing was a bit of whipped cream. :)

Thomas got the Pastrami Reuben Burger, no bun, with a side of tater tots. They make most of their sauces in house, including their 1000 Island and what they call Bad Daddy Sauce (it's some kind of BBQ aoli and it's a bit addictive).

When we told our server it was our first time and that we really enjoyed the food, he gave us 25% off our bill as a first-timer's discount. Groovy. We'll definitely go back. There's a bunch of stuff on the menu I'd like to try.

As for the movie, I enjoyed it. Not as much as I like my Marvel movies, but on its own it was a good film. Gal Gadot crushed it.

After the credits rolled and we were walking down the stairs, Thomas said, "I'm very disappointed. They set up the perfect situation with the spoiler )

I cackled all the way down the stairs and finally managed to tell him, "That's why we have fanfic, honey."

I made the cleaning staff smile because I was laughing so hard.

'Course, now I'm gonna have to go looking for that fic to appease him or possibly write it myself. I really hope there's a quality fic already out there, because I don't know that I want to see this again in theater and I'd have to to get the voices and that scene fixed in my head again.

I still don't really want to watch BM vs SM: Dawn of Justice, but I'm a bit more willing now just to see Diana.

Other things I liked: )

I'm sure there's other stuff, but I can't really think of them right now. [info]spikedluv, I totally agree with you about the similarities to a certain other superhero movie. :)

Since I don't currently have a Diana icon, have some Peggy Carter; another badass lady.
